About the Symbols on the Aussie Pride Badge.

The Aussie Pride badge was created to allow Australians some tangible way of showing our commitment to national pride, peace and unity.

The Rotary Club of Canterbury (initiated by the original Rotary Club of Boroondara Sunrise) created a design that moulds the Australian flag and Golden Wattle into an attractive lapel pin.

The wearing of a Rotary Aussie Pride badge is the perfect way to display pride in our country and our way of life, as each purchase supports Australian charities whose volunteers will be found when ever there is an emergency.

The Wattle

Although the Golden Wattle (acacia pycnatha Benth) has appeared on Australia's coat of arms since 1912, it was only officially proclaimed Australia's National Floral Emblem in 1988 at the time of the nation's bicentennial.

The Flag

Australia's first national flag was chosen from a flag competition held in 1901, the year of Federation.

It is composed of the Union Jack, the federation star; with six of its seven points representing the states that formed the Commonwealth and the seventh the two territories. The predominant feature is the five stars of the Southern Cross which can be observed in the night sky from every part of Australia.
