A smallish but very social group of members and partners gathered at Riversdale Park on Sunday 19 January for the Club's first get together for the 2025 year.
The weather while warm was very kind to us and was conducive to encouraging everyone to stay well hydrated as we enjoyed ourselves in the park just behind Rob Simpson's house which he calls his playground.
It was interesting to observe those who had put in a lot of work preparing their meal and those who had stopped at Woolies on the way and grabbed a take-away. Some members even went the extra mile by attending without a meal in the hope of there being something to eat for them when they returned home.
All in all it was a great way to smoothly get into the rotary year without to much hassle.
Hello Everyone
It’s been lovely to have some hot weather over recent weeks, and some time to enjoy it.
At my house we have been savouring the produce from our small garden, tomatoes, different lettuces-the types you just pick a few leaves at a time as you need them, strawberries, basil and other herbs, and just this week the first ripe passionfruit! Like all things in life, the harvest is generally determined by the time and effort applied- the more you put in, the more you get in return. With Rotary, I find that the returns are many fold more than the time, money and effort invested though, like the flavour of a just picked tomato and the joy it brings, the returns are often intangible to us but for the recipients of our work-priceless!
Huge thanks go to two very dedicated Rotarians who have stepped up to enable our club to continue to operate effectively. From March Alan Stevens will step into managing attendance and co-ordinating with our venue to organise meals. Anne will become the new editor of the Canterbury Buzz as Tony leaves us for the peace of the country. Thank you too to John Braine who would have taken this on, in addition to everything else he does, but Anne is a perfect fit.
I will be busy this collating and analysing the results of the member survey. Thank you for the nearly 2/3 of club members who completed and returned the survey (much higher than general participation rates for surveys).
Next Sunday from 8:30 am I will be attending The Boroondara Australia Day Ceremony which will include a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, Naturalization Ceremony and the presentation of the Boroondara Citizen of the Year Award. Stay tuned!
There will be no meeting on Monday January 27th as it is the Australia Day holiday, so our first formal meeting will be on Monday February 3rd at the Canterbury Centre. Remember to let Rob Simpson know of your attendance (or lack thereof) by the preceding Thursday.
I look forward to seeing you all at our first meeting as we kick off the new year.
