Arch Klumph Birthday - June 6th | Rotary Club of Maryborough Pretty relevant to the work that we as Rotarians do I'd say

So what was news for the week

A congratulations from Pres Tony to the newly appointed RCG Leader - aka the RCL (Rotary Community Leader) - Michael Stillwell from Kew Rotary. As we all know Michael is the husband of our very own Jill

First up at Helen's house at 12 noon then on to your allocated spot

Tony L pointed out the fly banner that we received from District - very handy item and it will get its first external showing (besides District conference) at next weeks Swinburne Student forum where Hans and Tony (again L.) will be present. In case you didn't see it, it looks like this.

Nora thanked the helpers who attended Carey Grammar last Friday - 12600 meals packed. Next packing event is June 15th and hosted at Melbourne Uni.

Further reminder of the meeting on Monday 20th at 10 am - Metro Tunnels visit - light lunch planned after that - NB no meeting on Monday evening

Message from Tony L. - thanks to Cathie and Ant for their generous donations for my May50k walk for MS. Started this morning (5.15am ish and a chilly 7 degrees) with a brisk 5.8km walk.  Long way to go but the 100km target should be easy to achieve. Still seeking sponsors if anyone is interested

Last Weeks Speaker - PDG Dennis Shore- unveiling the mystery of Rotary.
Thanks to PDG Dennis Shore for an insightful presentation on the workings of Rotary International (RI) and The Rotary Foundation (TRF). He endeavoured and succeeded in giving us what one of our members commented as the best presentation unveiling the mysteries of the organisation at the highest level.

So what are the facts?
RI and TRF employ 700 people with 200 of those in regional offices - Sao Paolo, Zurich, New Delhi, Pune, Seoul, Tokyo and Norwest (Sydney). Rotary Ireland and Britain (RIB) operates as a semi separate entity.
There are 17 elected members of the RI board each responsible for 2 zones. Our current zone board member is based in Singapore.
Each document produced by RI must be done in several languages - each being an exact interpretation of the other so that there are no ambiguities between zones.

What about TRF?
It exists with a singular focus to end Polio and a passion to end conflict.
It operates 4 funds which support the 7 areas of focus, interestingly these areas of focus are consistent with the goals of the United Nations

PDG Dennis is on the Board of Trustees of TRF having been invited to join (these are not elected positions) by the then RI President Elect Gordon McInally. Thank you Dennis for providing us with further information on the governing bodies - one can certainly sense your passion for what we do
Next Weeks Speaker- Jill Forsyth - Dentistry in the NT

Many of you will already know me from your time volunteering in the Fair Trade and Gift Shop, developed to support DIK Inc, and to sustain the East Timor economic development projects, and I have been interviewed on your Radio show.

Since my school days, I have always volunteered in the community, and was awarded an OAM for helping to develop self help stroke centres, such as the Boroondara Stroke Support Group for the SAV, and also for work in Timor Leste over 20 years, from the Maternity Packs Project with the Alola Foundation through to Job Creation, funding grassroots social enterprises. We are now using this job creation model, and seeing what impact we can have in the Larrakia Nation in the NT.
Stroke a chord choir
