Haiku Day celebrations brought a different vibe to our Monday meeting.
We had members who went all-in with their famous author or actor outfits, some who came as themselves, and some who came wondering what Haiku Day was all about.
Lili-Ann gave a us a history lesson and read several haiku's that members had composed. There was a variety of themes from train travel, the weather, the joy of rotary to the hawks. Well done to all who got into the spirit of the day.

The Club has agreed in principle to join the Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network which will provide donated furniture, appliances and household essentials to people coming out of homelessness, domestic violence, jail, natural disaster and other situations of need. RIMER will be a collective project that will enable rotary clubs to work together to support vulnerable people.

Dr Katie Allen is married with four children and, prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, was a paediatrician at the Royal Children’s Hospital for 28 years, a Professor at the University of Melbourne and the University of Manchester and Director of the Australian Centre of Food and Allergy Research. Katie has also been on the Board at Cabrini Hospital and Chairman of Melbourne Girls Grammar School.
Katie has published more than 300 scientific papers and has been Director of the Population Health Research Theme at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. She was elected as an inaugural Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and has been internationally recognised for her work at the World Health Organisation and the US National Academy of Science.
Katie currently sits on the joint standing committees for Trade and Investment; the National Broadband Network; the Parliamentary Library; Industry, Innovation, Science and Resources and Communications and the Arts.
Katie is also co convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of UNICEF, Parliamentary Friends of Child and Adolescent Health and Parliamentary Friends of Hemochromatosis, Parliamentary Friends of Young People, Parliamentary Friends of Cancer Care and Cure and the recently launched Parliamentary Friends of Medical Research.
The Canterbury Rotary Club lunch usually meets bi-weekly for a meal and some fun.

For the first time, and in the year we celebrate our Centenary of service above self in Australia, we are bringing together all five Rotary Districts in Victoria for a unique and inspiring Multi District Conference, Virtual Victoria. Held over two days, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May from 11am to 1pm, the conference will be a celebration of Rotary’s achievements over the last 100 years, as well as a forum for new ideas and opportunities that will foster enthusiasm at club level to continue the amazing impact Rotary has within our communities.
District 9800’s breakout session will be an in-person event on the Saturday (1st May), showcasing our signature projects across all Avenues of Service. The event will be held at Hyatt Place, Essendon Fields and below is a flyer providing the full details of what is going to be an amazing day!
All club members are encouraged to book for both the Multi District Conference and District 9800’s Breakout & Showcase events.
You are encouraged to bring sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to the D9800 Breakout & Showcase event to see what Rotary does, and the wonderful work you do to make a difference in the world. There will be a gourmet BBQ as well on this day in which they can join you.
