Social Meeting Hooking Restaurant 27 May 2019

On Monday 29 May,  30 members, partners and friends enjoyed a great social night at Hooking Restaurant in Kew East. The food was plentiful and the company and good cheer was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Chris and Kathleen James for organising the night.
District Assembly - 26 May 2019

On Sunday 26 May Tony, Janet, Tash, Rob and Ant represented Canterbury at the D9800 District Assembly hosted by the Rotary Club of Melton at Tabcorp Park.

Approximately 300 other Rotarians attended the Assembly which was a good place to meet and exchange ideas with other clubs and to hear first hand what projects they are involved in. It was especially of interest to learn about the international projects in areas where our Club is looking to expand ourselves. Vanuatu featured prominently as did the Philippines.

After an introduction by the incoming DG Grant Hocking and a video of our incoming RI President Mark Maloney whose theme, by the way, is “Rotary Connects The World” we each took our opportunity to attend different breakout sessions during the morning and early afternoon learning more as new Rotarians about what the organisation is all about.

During the Assembly it was announced that District had significant funds which could be invested in projects and welcomed applications. Tony, Janet, Rob and Ant attended a Grants briefing in the afternoon to learn further about the process in order to assist where required within the club.

All in all our members felt the Assembly was a worthwhile opportunity to make new acquaintances in the Rotary family and, again, to learn more about the organisation.

Next Meeting - 3 June 2019

To improve communication and member influence, instead of a speaker, next week we will trial workshopping the plans of a number of our directorates. Our directorates are Community, Youth, International, Club Service and Finance.  The model is that club members join a table of a directorate that interests them. The Director will then share their plans and issues with the members that have joined them, then as a group, ideas and/or solutions are brainstormed, prioritised to say to the best two or three, then conclusions presented to the whole club.

Approximate timing is
5 mins - Director shares their plans for the next twelve months and any issues they are dealing with.
10  mins -  Brainstorm solutions.
5 mins - Consolidate results

Each Director will then present to the club for about 5 minutes.

Next week we will be covering Community,  Youth and maybe  one more.
