On Sunday 26 May Tony, Janet, Tash, Rob and Ant represented Canterbury at the D9800 District Assembly hosted by the Rotary Club of Melton at Tabcorp Park. Approximately 300 other Rotarians attended the Assembly which was a good place to meet and exchange ideas with other clubs and to hear first hand what projects they are involved in. It was especially of interest to learn about the international projects in areas where our Club is looking to expand ourselves. Vanuatu featured prominently as did the Philippines. After an introduction by the incoming DG Grant Hocking and a video of our incoming RI President Mark Maloney whose theme, by the way, is “Rotary Connects The World” we each took our opportunity to attend different breakout sessions during the morning and early afternoon learning more as new Rotarians about what the organisation is all about. During the Assembly it was announced that District had significant funds which could be invested in projects and welcomed applications. Tony, Janet, Rob and Ant attended a Grants briefing in the afternoon to learn further about the process in order to assist where required within the club. All in all our members felt the Assembly was a worthwhile opportunity to make new acquaintances in the Rotary family and, again, to learn more about the organisation.
