Stories
Last Week's Meeting 12 October 2020

At our last Club meeting Val showed a short presentation about FORaMEAL with ideas about how it will progress into the future.  Please contact Val on her email at val.cunniffe@canterburyrotary.org if you would be able to assist in some repacking of sachets, or work in a small group to pack more meals.

Val also indicated that a government grant application has been made for assistance in setting up smaller FORaMEAL kits and other related equipment.

Edda advised that the Lets Stay Connected project books have been launched on the Club's website and are available to be downloaded and used within the aged care community and with your own family and friends. Please visit the website using this link

Tony announced that Club member Janet Hay has resigned from the Club and intends to join a Club closer to her home. She will continue to be involved in the Rotary 4 Bees activities.  Good luck Janet.

Ed Brown advised that Donations in Kind is beginning to resume activities with the initial packing of items in a container to go to East Timor..

And finally Tony indicated that the homelessness project members have been speaking with local organisations such as St Vincents, the Salvation Army and the Police to determine how the Club can best progress this initiative.

As our meeting next Monday will be held during grand final week, lets make it a footy themed night. Please come dressed in your club's colours even if your team isn't going to be playing-off at the big game on Saturday 24 October at the Gabba!

Also early notice that  there will not be a Club meeting on Monday 26 October but rather there will be an Eastside Cluster Zoom meeting on Wednesday 28  October where the District Governor Philip Archer will be the speaker. The Zoom link will be distributed prior to the night.

Last Week's Speaker - Bwe Thay

Again this week we were very fortunate to hear an inspiring presentation by Bwe Thay, a Deputy Commissioner at Multicultural Victoria.

Bwe spent several years in displacements settings in India before coming to Australia in 2009.

As a very positive person Bwe has, through his studies at the ACU, made the most of the opportunities here that were not available to him in his home country.

He now works at Swinburne University which is a far cry from the days when, due to little funds, he regularly walked from the ACU in Fitzroy to where he was living in the Ringwood area.

Bwe has a sense of community and has and is working on projects to empower people and aims and encourages people to give things a go.

He thanked the Club for it support of the community who are struggling through the meal donations from the FORaMEAL project.

Next Week's Speaker - Sue Williams

Our speaker next week is Sue Williams who is the CEO of Cabrini Health.. Sue will be joined by Rebecca Staples who is the Manager Corporate Partnerships at Cabrini Health.

Sue and Rebecca will discuss with us the operations of the very large organisation which is Cabrini and also about the Cabrini Foundation.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Dear supporter,

Orders are closing soon!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the most common cancer among Australian women. Cabrini is one of the country's largest private providers, and continues to be a leader in comprehensive cancer care, offering highly experienced specialists, individualised treatment and a full range of support services.

This year, in lieu of the annual Cabrini Breast Cancer Care Luncheon, Cabrini Foundation has teamed up with renowned chef Scott Pickett and his restaurant Estelle to create a delicious three course menu for two, chef prepared for you to heat, eat and experience at home. It’s a wonderful way to support Cabrini’s breast cancer care services while enjoying fine dining at home. You can enjoy the hamper for two with your partner, invite your bubble buddy over for dinner or order multiple hampers for your family to enjoy together.
