Last Week's Meeting 3 May 2021

At our Bring a Friend night last Monday we had a bumper crowd with lots of friends and lots of fun and information about the Club, its projects and more broadly about Rotary International.

In the photo above everyone present got up and danced with our Busyfeet leaders and absorbed the energy and enjoyment which our Busyfeet children experience when they join in the weekly Busyfeet sessions.

John McCaskill was our MC for the meeting and introduced a several of  members who gave us a brief outline of a number of Club projects and Rotary International.

Many thanks to the following members for their enlightening presentations:

  • Doug Hawley on the Philippines Eye and Ear Mission
  • Val Cunniffe on the FORaMEAL project
  • John McCaskill on Rotarians for Bee and the District 9800 Environmental Sustainability Committee
  • Lili-Ann Kriegler on the waggle dance and environment initiatives
  • Jenni Nankervis on the Busyfeet project
  • Cathie Macmillan on Club social activities and smaller projects, and
  • Rosemary Waghorne who gave us a snapshot of Rotary International

Induction of Tony Nguyen

In a night of highlights one of the standouts was the induction of our newest member Tony Nguyen.

Tony was accompanied at the meeting by his partner Tran and his  cousin Ackhim Pham.

In the photo above Tony received his induction certificate from President Tony Laycock and his sponsor Ted Waghorne.

Tony has joined us after a casual chat with Ted at a Camberwell Sunday Market where he asked Ted what was rotary about. This led to Tony coming along to several Club meetings and assisting at Club events and projects.

It is a great pleasure to welcome Tony as a member of the Club and we hope that he, particularly as he is lot younger than many of our members, is able to enjoy the fun and participation  in Club projects for many years to come.

Welcome Tony.

Club Recognition

The Club was very pleased to receive a  District 9800 Recognition Award at the District Conference on the weekend. The award is for the FORaMEAL project and Val Cunniffe, Tony Laycock and Doug Hawley are in the picture above with the award certificate.

At our Club meeting on Monday evening, District Governor Philip Archer was  present and awarded certificates to Rob Anderson and John McCaskill for their contributions to Rotarians for Bees and the District Environmental Sustainability District Committee. Fabienne Nichola, who is Co-Chair along with John McCaskill of the District Environmental  Sustainability Committee, was also present and assisted with the ceremony.

Next Week's Speaker - Katie Rhodes

How often do you do a stocktake on your financial position and consider if your set up is working towards your broader financial and lifestyle objectives? The notorious deadline of 30 June presents an occasion for you to review your financial position and consider whether short-term, there are any financial strategies that should be employing in the current or next financial year, changes to legislation that may impact you and more broadly, what your medium and long-term investment strategies are to grow your wealth and meet your needs. Investment opportunities, superannuation and ways to minimise tax will be among the questions raised and topics discussed by Financial Adviser from Accru Wealth Management, Kate Rhodes.

Kate works at Accru Melbourne, a Hawthorn East based financial services firm offering financial planning, accounting and audit services. Kate is passionate about working closely with her clients, spanning across all demographics, to grow their wealth and expand their financial literacy to ensure their goals are being met and they are making well informed decisions towards their financial future.
