Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services. Relay is a chance for the Hawthorn East community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives.
Each Relay For Life event is organised by a local volunteer committee on behalf of the Cancer Council. Our club has members on this committee. Teams of 10–15, which are headed up by a team captain, get together and fund-raise year-round. Everyone then meets at the Relay to celebrate the amazing fundraising achievements of the past year. Teams participate in a relay-style walk or run, challenging themselves to stay on the track overnight. Each event is unique and you can stay for the whole event and camp overnight, enjoy the fun activities and attend the moving ceremonies that make Relay For Life so special.
Our club enters a team and our members support this annual event. We sponsor our youth service partners who also participate. The Club usually holds a Club meeting at the event with a barbecue, followed by the candlelight ceremony.
The Hawthorn Relay for Life will takes place at the John Gardiner Reserve, Auburn Road, Hawthorn.
