Rotary Radio Show
The Radio Show is on a recruiting campaign for the following people to help run our weekly radio show:
- Program presenters (front room people)
- Panel operators (back room people)
- Program Manager (not necessarily either 1 or 2)
You may have some interest in doing this kind of volunteer work or you may know of someone who has a definite interest and looking for an opportunity. If so, please let Anne Josefsberg know. The above positions are not a weekly proposition. On the average, volunteers are required about once per month.
FORaMEAL
The FORaMEAL project holds packing events throughout the year and at some of these extra-hands on assistance would be very helpful. Please contact Nora Ley at nora.ley@canterburyrotary.org if you are interested in assisting. Please note that volunteers over 18 years old will need to hold a current working with children card
RIMERN
Rimern is a project to provide household items to those in need. The Club assists in the RIMERN warehouse with sorting, stacking and packing items.
Please contact Narelle Baykew who is the Club's RIMERN contact for further information at narelle.bakyew@canterburyrotary.org
Rotary Fair Trade Shop
The Rotary Fair Trade Shop and Bookshop is located located at 650 High Street Kew East, just down from the Harp Hotel. This is a Rotary “cluster club” activity, with the proceeds going to DIK (Donations In Kind). The shop needs volunteers to help run the shop. Volunteers will be allocated a half day shift and will be trained to help run the shop – opening and closing the shop, pricing and shelving stock, and serving customers. If you can help, please contact John Braine at john.braine@canterburyrotary.org
The shop needs a high turnover of current fiction and quality non-fiction in addition to other household items. So if you are clearing out your bookshelves or household items, remember to bring them to the Rotary Fair Trade Shop. Also volunteer book lovers are needed to help sort and price books.
Camberwell Sunday Market
Every Sunday our Rotary Club of Canterbury provides three volunteers to man the entrances to the Camberwell Sunday Market.
This volunteering effort is the lifeblood of the many projects that we undertake each year. We collect a gold coin donation from those entering the market. The Club gets a share of the total donations from each market day and we are able to use this money to fund the service activities that you can read about on our Projects pages.
It is a lot of fun, greeting people as they come to find a good bargain. The volunteers are on a roster, so that they move to different gates during the morning. Because you are paired up with a different volunteer on each gate, it becomes quite a social experience as you chat about various things.
We start at 7:00am at the Rotary caravan, where you pick up a high-vis vest, a hat for the sun, an identifying name badge and a collection cup. The market stops at 12:30pm and we help to direct the traffic until 1:00pm. There is time to browse through the stalls as we travel from gate to gate during the morning. It’s a really enjoyable experience.
Club members are usually rostered three or four times a year. If a roster shift from 7:00am to 1:00pm is too long a volunteer, half shifts 7:00am to 10:00am or 10:00am to 1:00pm can be arranged.
Our market coordinator is John Pocock who can be contacted at john.pocock@canterburyrotary.org .
